oh, hey there, christmas!

I'm in my room writing an essay, poking people on facebook, texting at the same time, all the normal shenanigans one gets up to on a Saturday morning. And then Michael Bubles “Blue Christmas” starts playing on the radio.

I turn toward the sound, a look of shocking realisation steadily etching its way across my face. It’s here. Christmas has come.

It’s not like Christmas has managed to slowly trickle in. Suddenly, one day, *BAM* and its Christmas. Where did it come from! Its NOVEMBER!

As much as I love the season of goodwill, Santa, mistletoe, and the festive tunes, I take issue with this- I mean it’s not like there nothing to keep us from being bored- November has its fair share of events- Remembrance Day, Thanksgiving, Bonfire Night, even International Men’s Day , BUT NOT CHRISTMAS!

If we start on December 1st, out of the 365 days of the year we will devote at least 30 to prepare for “the happiest day of the year” That’s at least 8% of the year dedicated to one celebration. And I know someone who had their cards written in late August. If Christmas gets a whole 8% of the year, then so should Easter, Birthdays and other various public holidays. I mean, equality and all that…

The 1st of December though… I’ll walk around humming carols under my breath, strewing tinsel abaft the home, and greeting old people with “Merry Christmas” so they get the right impression of the youth of today. Yes, I smile at old people...dont want them to think I'm a yobbo...

But anyway, for the next 4 days, it is nothing more than perfectly ordinary Winter.

Call me Scrooge. I can take it.
